Restoration and Reconfiguration of a Victorian House
This project involved the restoration and internal reconfiguration of a high Victorian villa in Finsbury Park, combining the character of the original building with a more open and contemporary way of living.
The house had an unusual geometry, shaped by its proximity to one of London’s primary water mains, resulting in a diagonally truncated plan and a series of irregular internal spaces. The design sought to embrace these quirks while creating a more coherent and usable layout.
To achieve this, the interior was carefully opened up by removing secondary floors and partitions, allowing for greater lateral space and a clearer connection between rooms. This intervention transformed the house into a more fluid and adaptable living environment.
The client’s brief called for a blend of New York loft living and a traditional London townhouse. The design responds to this by combining open, generous spaces with retained period features, creating a balance between raw spatial quality and domestic comfort.
Materials and detailing were selected to support this dual character, resulting in an interior that feels both expressive and grounded.
The result is a distinctive home that celebrates its unusual form while providing a flexible and contemporary living space.
