Hampstead Townhouse

Full Refurbishment and Internal Reconfiguration

This project involved the complete alteration and refurbishment of a townhouse in Hampstead, undertaken for a longstanding client.

While the house retained a number of attractive historic features, the existing layout no longer suited modern living. The brief centred on creating a more open and connected ground floor, allowing the main living spaces to function as a single, cohesive environment.

To achieve this, the internal walls at ground floor level were carefully removed and the space restructured to form an open-plan living area. The design maintains a sense of proportion and definition within the larger space, ensuring it remains comfortable and practical for everyday use.

The interior balances the character of the original Edwardian house with a more contemporary approach. Existing features were retained and enhanced, while new elements were introduced with a lighter, more modern language to create a cohesive and timeless result.

Materials and detailing were selected to support this balance, resulting in an interior that feels both refined and relaxed.

The result is a home that respects its historic origins while providing a more open, flexible and liveable space for contemporary life.
