Edwardian Terrace Renovation and Ground Floor Reconfiguration
Set on a quiet, tree-lined street in Muswell Hill, this Edwardian family home was reconfigured to better support modern living.
While the house retained much of its original character, the ground floor layout no longer worked for everyday life. The kitchen was awkwardly positioned, disconnected from the dining space and living areas, and there was little relationship between the interior and the garden beyond.
The design focused on creating a more natural flow between spaces and reconnecting the house to its garden.
A new rear extension at garden level introduces an internal courtyard, bringing natural light deep into the plan and creating a calm focal point within the home. This allows light to reach both the existing house and the new extension, while offering changing views of planting and sky throughout the day.
The ground floor has been reorganised to create a continuous sequence of kitchen, dining and living spaces. These areas now open directly onto the garden, allowing the home to expand outwards and creating a strong indoor–outdoor connection.
Internally, the design balances the character of the original Edwardian house with a more contemporary approach. Clean lines, carefully selected materials and warm finishes create a calm and cohesive interior that feels both refined and comfortable.
The result is a bright, connected family home where spaces flow easily, natural light is maximised, and the garden becomes part of everyday living.
